Earlier this year, Boyana Achovski, Secretary General of Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE) and the most influential Energy Women Leader of Central and Eastern Europe for 2023, addressed the audience at the Female Entrepreneurship Lab, hosted by the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration. Her talk focused on the pivotal role of female leadership within the context of the energy transition. In her engaging presentation and subsequent interview, Mrs. Achovski highlighted the crucial contributions women are making in shaping the future of the energy sector and driving the global shift towards sustainability.
Drawing on her extensive experience, Boyana Achovski shared key insights on the importance of effective leadership in managing the ongoing transformation of the energy industry, propelled by the objectives of the European Green Deal and the broader movement toward decarbonisation. She stressed the need for visionary leaders – those capable not only of managing change but also of inspiring their teams to adopt new standards and embrace innovative approaches.
Mrs. Achovski also discussed the underrepresentation of women in leadership roles within the energy sector, shedding light on the challenges women face in this highly complex and demanding field. Despite these obstacles, she noted the significant progress achieved in recent years, with more women taking on leadership roles and contributing to strategic discussions that will shape the industry’s future. She encouraged women to seize the emerging opportunities, emphasising that the pathway to leadership is now more open than ever before.
In addition, Mrs. Achovski delivered an inspiring message to young leaders: the energy sector is in urgent need of fresh perspectives, innovation, and new talent. As the industry undergoes unprecedented change, there has never been a better moment for the next generation to bring their creativity and vision to the table, helping to build a sustainable future. The sector offers tremendous opportunities for development and growth, and Mrs. Achovski called on young professionals – particularly women – to be bold in stepping into leadership roles.
Many of these topics, along with other compelling insights, were further explored in a special episode of the Female Entrepreneurship Lab’s channel, featuring Boyana Achovski. In addition, selected highlights from her lecture at FEBA are now available online, providing deeper understanding of visionary leadership, strategic decision-making, and the importance of mentoring in the context of the energy transition.
