The 6th South East European Conference on Sustainable Development of Energy, Water and Environment Systems – SEE SDEWES 2026 – officially opened in Burgas, Bulgaria this year. The international forum is held in cooperation with the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” and the Burgas Branch of Sofia University.
The conference brings together researchers, scientists, and experts from around the world to discuss current trends, scientific approaches, policies, and technologies for sustainable development. A key focus of the discussions is the interconnection between energy, water, and environmental systems, as well as the need for integrated solutions to climate, resource, and socio-economic challenges.
Our laboratory team is taking part in the forum, represented by Mariya Trifonova, Maya Todorova, Lyubimka Georgieva, and Remina Aleksieva. Their participation reflects the laboratory’s active engagement in research related to climate science, sustainability, and the role of science in supporting evidence-based policies and long-term solutions.
As part of the conference programme, PhD candidate Lyubimka Georgieva presented a scientific paper entitled “The State of Climate Science in Bulgaria: A Review of Research Trends, Methodological Advances, and Future Research Directions.” The presentation focused on the development of climate science in Bulgaria, highlighting key research trends, methodological progress, and opportunities for future studies in the context of the growing need for science-based approaches to adaptation and sustainable development.
SEE SDEWES 2026 provides an important platform for knowledge exchange among the academic community, experts, and institutional representatives. The participation of the laboratory team contributes to the broader scientific dialogue on sustainable transformations in South East Europe and strengthens the visibility of Bulgarian research in an international context.
