Net-Zero Lab is now an Associate Member of the European Energy Research Alliance (EERA)

In early 2024, the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration (FEBA) at Sofia University achieved a major milestone in advancing energy research by initiating its membership in the European Energy Research Alliance (EERA). This was made possible through its newly established research unit, Net-Zero Lab. FEBA applied to participate in three of EERA’s 18 Joint Programs, aiming to contribute to the European energy transition.

  • Energy Systems Integration: Focused on optimizing Europe’s energy systems by integrating electricity, heating, cooling, and renewable pathways, while leveraging synergies across water, transport, and data networks
  • Energy Efficiency in Industrial Processes: Dedicated to enhancing energy efficiency in energy-intensive industries, supporting EU climate targets with innovative technologies.
  • Energy Storage: Aiming to develop advanced storage solutions to address renewable energy variability and strengthen European leadership in this critical area.

Тhe European Energy Research Alliance (EERA)  a key player in the European Union’s Strategic Energy Technology Plan (SET-Plan), unites universities, research institutions, and industry to advance sustainable and efficient energy systems. Its goal is to support the shift to renewable energy and ensure a sustainable and secure energy future for Europe

With its strong focus on technological innovation in the energy and industrial sectors, Net-Zero Lab has strategically aligned itself with the objectives of EERA’s selected Joint Programs. Over recent months, the lab actively engaged with the Joint Programs’ Steering Committees, effectively showcasing its core focus areas and emphasizing FEBA’s pivotal role in advancing energy research. This proactive engagement culminated in a positive vote of approval for its participation.

As of November 2024, the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration (FEBA) at Sofia University, through Net-Zero Lab, has officially become an Associate Member of the European Energy Research Alliance (EERA) and its three chosen Joint Programs. This significant milestone highlights FEBA’s dedication to driving sustainability and energy research while promoting awareness of SET Plan implementation in Bulgaria. By collaborating with other EERA members, FEBA and Net-Zero Lab are poised to contribute meaningfully to a greener, more competitive, and sustainable energy future for Central and Eastern Europe.
